Katwise and Her Crazy Calico House   Leave a comment

This whimsical home was (re)imagined in Woodstock, NY by the artist known as Katwise.  She also refashions sweaters into outrageously, daring clothing.

Light-Hearted Design: (Re)Imagined Lighting   Leave a comment

I don’t know about you, but sometimes the gray, dark days of winter get me down.  As a result I find myself yearning for blue skies and sunshine.  Hey we all need a little vitamin D right?  Until then, I wanted to share some really fun and quirky up-cycled lighting I’ve been gushing over.

The image above was featured on Charming Ink’s blog in 2010.  I’m unsure if Mostaz Seed is still producing these, as the link is broken, but I hope so!

This little diddy (above) will “pull” …*cough, cough… at your vintage heartstrings.  The pulley light is designed by Benclif Designs.  They have other up-cycled beauties with this industrial flavor at their Etsy shop.

Ok…so it is a bit foo-foo girly, but hey! I’m a bit girly too. 🙂  The above image is from Restoration Hardware and is featured on  Yep, I know it is not necessarily within our budget at $3295, but the image below sure is!

This chicken wire chandelier is a bit more playful and was submitted to Better Homes and Gardens by Lauren.  Here’s a close-up.

ImagePretty stinkin’ darling don’t you think?  This piece was estimated to run under $40 for those  blessed with a little know-how.

I’ll leave you all with a quote on light by J.R.R. Tolkien:

“May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.”

Habitat for Humanity: The ReStore   Leave a comment

Do you love watching HGTV’s Rehab Addict like I do?  Then you have to take time to stumble into Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Stark County.  Find building supplies, once-loved fixtures, and gently used furniture and start re-imagining!

ReStore Chair

If you are looking for a “new-to-you” desk for your home office or craft room, this is the place!  Tile for a back splash?  Check!  A darling, retro light fixture? Check!  Their site has great links to DIY projects, green living, and up-cycling ideas too.  The ReStore takes donations and has volunteer opportunities as well.

Habitat for Humanity has helped build and rehabilitate over 400,000 houses, serving over two million people worldwide.  They were founded in 1976 as a non-profit Christian ministry to assist low income folks in their dream of home ownership.  I am tickled pink that they have created ReStore as a great resource for those of us with tiny bank accounts, but big dreams too.  Stop in, bring those ideas to fruition and re-imagine handmade!
